2. Bp Instruments
Rue Professeur Mahaim 8, 4000 Liège & Dok Zuid, 7, 9000 Gent
Bp-instruments submitted a product they describe as the most sensitive VOS-meter in the world. The instrument bears the name RAE type PGM-7240. It is a highly compact photo-ioniser that fits in the palm of the hand, and continuously detects volatile organic substances in air, in water and in the soil, from a concentration of 1 ppb (one part in a billion) to 200 ppm (200 parts in a million). The instrument is therefore extremely sensitive, and can detect the presence of more than 250 different constituents. The photo-ioniser can be quickly calibrated on-site and reacts and measures rapidly (in less than 5 seconds). This is therefore a portable measuring device which is just as precise as a gas chromatograph in a laboratory (from 1 ppb!) and which can also be very simply operated.
The instrument is particularly suitable for the assessment of air quality in a variety of spaces. It will be useful in industry for the detection of leaks since it registers the tiniest amounts of hazardous materials. It has been available in the United States since 1999 and in Europe since the start of 2000.
